CAPOEIRA ANGOLA: INSTITUTO PALMEIRAS INTERNATIONAL CAPOEIRA WORKSHOPS

 

 

 

 

 WORKSHOPS BY INSTITUTO PALMEIRAS 

 

Since 2006, over 20 workshops with local and international practitioners have been presented by the Institute.  The workshop is usually rolled out in 1-8 sessions and has attracted keen interest from an international audience including players, activists and educators from Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, Barbados, Jamaica, St. Maarten, Grenada, Israel, United States of America and Switzerland. 

 

Workshop Activities:

 

Physical Training: basic and intermediate techniques in Capoeira Angola, roda etiquette and music training.

 

Presentations to audiences aged 4-65. With the participation of Instituto Palmeiras members Lombriga and Cobrinha Roxa, over 40 physical training seminars have been conducted since 2006.  Physical training workshops have been made available to community groups and the general public through the Rockefeller Foundation-sponsored P.L.A.Y. programme and the Let's Dance programme, designed and implemented by development consultancy, The BARCAM. 

 

Monitoring and Evaluation for Sport-for-Development: Instituto Palmeiras' has been involved in the Monitoring and Evaluation of Sport-for-Development programmes since its inception in 2006 and has provided services to The BARCAM, UNICEF/Trinidad and Tobago Alliance for Sport and Physical Education and Game On! Caribbean.

 

History and Global Politics of Capoeira: This element benefits from Instituto Palmeiras' established research programmes and findings have been presented as academic papers and training programmes at ISPEC 2007- International Sport and Physical Education Conference; ACS- Association for Cultural Studies 2008 (Jamaica); Centre for Language Learning, UWI (Trinidad and Tobago); Trinidad and Tobago Alliance for Sport and Physical Education (Trinidad and Tobago); Conference on African and Afro-Caribbean Performance, University of California, Berkeley (USA).
